Working Mother to DC: Put Your Big Girl Panties On And Get Back To Work!

So let’s just get it out there that I will probably offend you no matter what your political affiliation:  Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Anarchist (especially the anarchists – they take themselves way too seriously).

I can’t be the only working mom out there who feels like DC is filled with a bunch of two-year-olds holding their breath until they get what they want.  Well it isn’t cute in aisle five of Target and it certainly isn’t cute in the nation’s capital.  I say we send in a battalion of kindergarten teachers to give the politicians lessons on using their words, how to say they’re sorry like they mean it, and dole out time outs as needed.  Are you getting a visual?

Actually, they are even worse than two-year-olds they’re this horrible cross between tyrannical toddlers and angst ridden teenagers.  Am I right?  I mean, I feel as if grown men and women should understand the consequences of shutting down the US Government and playing brinksmanship with the debt ceiling.  It’s similar to when teenagers do the most mind-blowingly asinine things and as parents we ask them “didn’t you know what would happen, didn’t you think of the consequences?”  And then you get that blank look like you are speaking Mandarin Chinese to them and they have no idea what the word “consequence” even means.  ARGH!!!!!!!!

And let me be clear, kicking the can is not a valid option.  I for one do not want to end up here again.  Let’s send in the high school teachers to tell them that late homework will not be accepted.  Figure this out people!  delaying the pain of having to do this again in 6 weeks or a year is unacceptable.  It will not be better in 6 weeks or a year.  If you can’t get it fixed now zeros for all of you!

And here’s the thing folks, ObamaCare, the Affordable Care Act whatever the heck you feel like calling it is here to stay.  It is a law affirmed by the Supreme Court and a  presidential election.  Is it perfect?  No it is not.  But it is happening.  So let’s just rip the band-aid off and start fixing what will need to inevitably be fixed when what in theory sounds like a workable idea turns out completely differently in practice.  And please stop saying you are just asking for the same consideration for individuals as you are for corporations.  Because a. people are not corporations and b. there are loopholes in the corporate portion of the law you could drive a semi through whereas it’s pretty cut and dry when it comes to individual.  Of course the technology needs to actually work but you didn’t hear people saying you shouldn’t buy an IPhone when iOS 7 turned out to be a bit of a disaster.

So Mr. President throw these guys in Congress some sort of face-saving stupid little compromise so they can tout it in their re-election ads and Congress please just accept it and let’s move on.

Of course I may be especially angry at the prospect of my father’s VA disability check not arriving in time for he and my mom to make their mortgage payment at the end of the month.  And don’t get me started on the marital strife being caused by my grumpy husband who probably isn’t getting his expedited passport back in time to go on his annual guys trip to Mexico.  It’s once a year and he needs it – please take pity on us!

So please get it together, folks, before I drive a big yellow bus full of moms and educators to teach you how grownups govern.
